Independent Mountain Guides Queenstown was established in 1996. We are an audited adventure tourism provider. Our guides and instructors are well experienced and trained in the skills offered. They are very sought after in their fields of expertise, with a vast bank of knowledge. All participants will walk away with some very good skills to put into practice. Get your group together and make contact, we look forward to hearing from you.

Should minimum numbers not be achieved on the dates asked for, then the course offered can be rescheduled.

1 Backcountry Avalanche Courses

IMG is happy to provide for NZAC member at a Special Price, two and four day backcountry avalanche course.

This will suit the needs of beginner and more experienced backcountry travellers. Bring your own gear or we will supply the following, transceivers, shovels, probes, saws, snow safety kits, snowshoes -poles for access. Please wear alpine clothing and footwear for winter conditions. If you need assistance from us we can help you just let us know. If you ski or snowboard you will need to bring your own backcountry setup or hire a setup from Small Planet Sports 17 Shotover Street in Queenstown. The first day of each course will be on snowshoes (supplied).
You will require accommodation in Queenstown and there are some very good prices available.
Transport – vehicle pooling
Locations- driven by weather and snow conditions on the day (Queenstown Mountains)
Dates 3rd (two-day course) and 4th weekend (4 four day course) weekend of July, August, September

Cost for NZAC members are as follows:

Two Day Course

4-6 participants – $405 pp including gear as mentioned above (normally $450)

 Four Day Course

4-6 participants – $1350 pp including assistance with gear (as mentioned above) (normally $1720) and a one ride lift pass each day.

People need to be good intermediate skiers – boarders or stronger in off-piste conditions for this course and have attended at least a one-day avalanche course in the past

 

2 Intro to Backcountry Skiing and Riding

This course is for skiers and riders new to the backcountry. To attend this course you will have completed a one-day avalanche training course. You will be taught a vast array of skills ie.putting your skins on, using your different height heel raises of your bindings and ski crampons, pace, terrain management, leadership whilst making safe choices, group management, efficient snow stability assessment tests, communication, weather forecasting and assessing any snow safety information available.
Accommodation-You will require accommodation in Queenstown and there are some very good prices available.
Transport- vehicle pooling
Locations- in and around the Queenstown mountain regions but location driven by weather and snow conditions
Price includes a 1 ride lift pass each day
Dates 1st and 2nd weekends of August, September and October

2 Day Course

4-6 participants – $685pp  (normally $710)
