Kawakawa Bay is on the northern shores of Lake Taupo, 5km (as the tui flies) west of Kinloch. At the eastern end of the bay are a number of rhyolite cliffs,
overlooking native bush and the lake. There is a mix of trad and sport routes, both single- and multi-pitch, which will appeal to climbers at most levels. With a
high number of easy and moderate trad climbs, and generally trustworthy rock, the bay is a great place to come and learn to climb on natural protection.
